Short Course on Mushroom Production held at Egerton University
The ‘USINKEN’ program
under Egerton University has established a ‘Mushroom Spawn Production Unit’ for Oyster and Button mushroom. The unit will contribute to increased mushroom spawn production in Kenya hence facilitate supply of spawn to farmers.
In addition, a ‘Mushroom Demonstration Unit’ equipped with necessary facilities required for growing Oyster and Button mushroom has also been established. Both units, at Egerton University, will also be used as training centres hence contribute towards enhancement of technical knowledge in Mushroom production in Kenya.
The program has set up short course program on Mushroom Production at Egerton University for farmers in Kenya. The training will focus on Oyster and Button mushroom production covering aspects on spawn production, handling and use; Cultivation and harvesting procedures; Diseases and pests management; Post harvest processing and value addition and; Marketing and economics of mushroom production. Farmers will further be trained on the design and construction of recommended mushroom house.
